Portraits with a Purpose

My mission with my photographic work is to make a difference in the world. My hope is that it will inspire others to take action in their lives to create a positive change on the planet.
Recently, I photographed a very inspiring family. I have known Nancy Alspaugh for several years as she is one of the authors of my photo essay book, Fearless Women:Midlife Portraits. Nancy and her husband Read, adopted a baby, Wyatt, now five years old. He is an amazing child with beauty and spirit. Wyatt is also autistic. Nancy and Read have worked diligently with treatment for Wyatt's healing. It's amazing to see his progress in just one year. They are doing their second annual fundraiser for Act Today for Autism, helping children recover from autism. Check out Act Today's web site for more information on the event.

This portrait of Nancy and Wyatt is a wonderful example of their relationship. While taking this image, they were reciting a story that they wrote together.

I love my creative expression called photography!

Celebrate Your Life As Art

In doing portraits, I have been on a mission to help people "Celebrate Their Life as Art."  I think it is a noble cause.  I see artistry in every human I meet.  That is what makes my job so amazing... I get to photograph the artisty of the human form and emotion. I love it!

And speaking of artistry, I have been photographing my great neices, Tess and Tatum since they were in their Mommies belly. Here are the recent portraits taken recently. I must say, they are really used to the camera. After we were done with the session I asked Tatum who is 5 years old, whatwas her favite part of the day. She said, "having my picture taken". We do have lot's of fun! It's really interesting watching their personalities develop and change over the years. They are so wonderful and so different.

I am posting some portraits that I have taken from a year ago and just recently. Enjoy!

Always Recreating myself

This is my first entry into my new blog. I am excited about journaling my thoughts about my work. I have been a portrait photographer for over 20 years. Of course, I started when I was 12! I have photographed actors, celebrities, presidential candidates, authors, musicians and extraordinary ordinary people. I have had two portrait books published. I love what I do. Everyone is unique with such interesting stories. I have always been a very curious person. I truly enjoy hearing about someones life.

Making a transition from portraits for the entertainment industry into family and children fine art wall portraits has been a natural progression. It seems that I will still photograph celebrities but in quite a different way. I photographed Leeza Gibbons right after Mother's Day with her three children. She said it was her Mother's Day gift to herself. It was so much fun seeing the playful relationship with her and the kids and the fun the siblings had with each other during the photography session. I know it's a great photo session when there is alot of laughing.
